Goal

My goal is to lose 20 lbs and make five art pieces in six months.

I chose this goal because

[HE][A]LTH... I've been challenged with staying in good shape for quite some time -- as the years have passed, progressive weight gain and sedentary living have become normal for me. Now is the time to try and get back to a healthier place and this could be the motivation I need!!

[A][RT]... I've always enjoyed doodling, drawing, writing, cutting, pasting, and giving the few and random things I've made away. It's easy to accumulate art supplies and strengthen my out of sight out of mind talent, but being regularly productive is a stretch. Perhaps by getting in the routine of making new stuff, I might be able to keep myself going after the campaign...

At the end of the six months, I'll put the names of all donors in my Red Sox hat and will mail the winners the completed art pieces.

$10 - Tiny

$20 - Small

$40 - Medium

$60 - Large

$100 - Largest

I'm helping because

My wife Kelly is a former volunteer, Outreach Counselor and Program Manager for At The Crossroads. Over the years I learned more about the work ATC does and the positive impact it makes on youth and young adults. Helping ensure that ATC's incredible work and services continue to serve a very deserving population while fulfilling my own selfish needs is a perfect combo!

About At The Crossroads

ATC walks the streets of San Francisco, reaching out to homeless youth and young adults on their turf. We work with young people who others have given up on, who would not get help without us. Since we started 13 years ago, we have worked with more than 5,000 youth, helping them build outstanding lives.

All right, we are working a couple of weeks behind here, so that means you have a couple weeks left to donate in case you were holding out! The art pieces are done... finally! Although I did not reach my ultimate goal of losing the entire 20 lbs, I came very close and am on a good track to continue my healthy living.

Although my direction was aimed toward screen printing most of the work, I never actually made it to the screen printing studio and instead stuck with things I've been working with for a while - carving rubber stamps and making mixed media wood panels using security envelopes, glue, and Ultra Glow which is a totally fun resin my friend Steve got me interested in.

If you donated, you'll be in the drawing for the prizes posted here and above.

I will draw the names of prize winners on 9/24 and will ship out your booty before 9/30... I promise!

Thank you all again so much for your support and kind donations... I appreciate it very much and I know At The Crossroads does too! Getting involved with the I Think I Can Campaign has really boosted my desire to maintain healthy living AND carve out more time for making stuff, both of which make me a happy camper. If you find yourself needing a little motivation to meet a goal, I recommend signing up!

Thank you again!

Today is 8/15 and as you can see there are no photos because I need to pour the finish on to the art pieces. So my photos will be a little late - hopefully by this weekend I will finally have the pictures up! See you soon!

Wow, thanks Anonymous! I wish I knew who you were so I could send a thank you. You are mysterious and I appreciate your ample gift!

I am planning to end my campaign around August 1 and am happy to report you have helped me surpass my fundraising goal of $750! Thank you!! You can still donate while I finish my campaign and up to the point that I wrap up in August.

This week I made a major step and joined the YMCA down the street. Not only that, I actually WENT twice! I am waking up at 6 and going before work which seems like it works so far.

The art is coming. Although I wish I could have posted pics along the way, I suppose I work best the night before the exam. Before 8/15 I will have photos on this thing and by 9/01 the winners will have their piece postmarked. If not, I guarantee your money back! (Just kidding!)

Thanks again and a happy July to all!

HI! So far so good... thank you again for all the kind contributions! For ye donors - I hope you have received my thank you note in the mail! Healthy living is going well... I try not to complain when I'm on long hikes or urban walks with Kelly and Cousin Jenny. Lately I have been into making different Asian dishes - low fat pad Thai, Vietnamese spring rolls, etc. There aren't any art photos here since... I am a major procrastinator! But I promise I won't disappoint. They will all be done by the end of July! For now here's a photo of an almost five year collection of Fast Passes. I've been looking at it wondering what I should make. So far I've got some ideas - now I need to get to work! Thanks again for keeping the $$$ coming!

Hi People I Know and Love... Thanks for your support and donating your $$$$ so far. A couple of weeks ago I was half way to my 20 lb goal but after I picked up one measly potato chip at the work St. Patty's Day spread it's been downhill. Alas, I have a firm resolve to get back on my feet tomorrow! I'm returning to screen printing in April so I hope to get many pieces made in the Spring. Currently working on the "Largest" (or "Large" - haven't decided) piece of art work, I'm about 3/5 done and will post a photo when I'm finished. Until then... keep those donations a-flowin'! :) Thanks everyone!

Hi Family and Friends! Thank you for your support and kind words of encouragement so far and especially for the early generous donations!

Since 2/02/2010 things have gone well on the eating front but exercising and art making are trailing behind. However, between now and May I have some extra time off from work so I hope to get productive on my days off.

I went to Southern California for an extended long weekend - eating healthy when I'm away from home seems to be a challenge for me. But I've lost 5 pounds since I started my campaign and am happy to report I didn't gain any of it back after my trip. Yahoo!

Thank you again for taking the time to check out this campaign!

More to come soon!

Jen
