Go Laura! You introduced me to ATC and it was well worth it!

Goal

My goal is to introduce new people to At The Crossroads by having them watch the documentary, donate money, or come with me to a prep night.

I chose this goal because

I want 2010 to be a great year for At The Crossroads and want my friends to learn about what I do on Thursday nights!

I'm helping because

Ever since I went to my first prep night in the fall of 2007, I have been impressed with the dedication and commitment that the ATC staff has for their clients. The counselors go on outreach in the Mission and downtown and pass out basic needs such as food, socks and hygiene items to homeless youth that they meet. They then build counseling relationships with interested youth and help them learn how to achieve their goals, whether that be find stable housing, a job, deal with social issues; basically anything the youth wants to do to improve their life in a way that they see fit. The thing I like about the way they operate is that they act as a responsible adult in their clients’ lives. They maintain a relationship after the goals are attained, and have some impressive statistics on goals being met and sustained with their clients.

When you talk to the ATC staff it is clear that they are passionate about what they do and really care about the people that they are working with. I started volunteering on a weekly basis in the office about a year ago to help with basic tasks so that the counselors don’t have to do them and can focus on clients. There are about 10 weekly office volunteers.

What I am asking of you is to take a few minutes of your time to watch their documentary (it is only 15 minutes long): http://www.atthecrossroads.org/videos/. If you feel inspired to help, you can donate to my campaign (most companies will match this donation) or come with me to a supply prep night, which involves prepping things like candy packs and hygiene items for outreach, talking to cool people, and getting force-fed chocolate and fresh fruit. The next one is February 24 from 5:30 – 7:30.

Thanks for viewing my campaign page!

About At The Crossroads

ATC walks the streets of San Francisco, reaching out to homeless youth and young adults on their turf. We work with young people who others have given up on, who would not get help without us. Since we started 10 years ago, we have worked with more than 5,000 youth, helping them build outstanding lives.
