We Think Lisa Can
Support Lisa's Campaign while helping homeless youth
Goal
Here's how the campaign works- for each $100 donated to ATC, I will volunteer an hour of my time. It was my new year's resolution to start volunteering this year and then my dear Grandma E passed away on January 14th at 82. Grandma E was an amazing lady who volunteered her time and energy to many causes throught her life. At a very young age I remember going along with her to deliver boxes of food and gifts she bought for a low income family at Christmas time. Another time I helped her and my Grandpa deliver meals to the elderly in their community, which they did for many years. Grandma E volunteered until she was 80 years old and became too sick to continue. She was always there to lend a hand and she inspires me to volunteer in our community. (The picture on the top left is from Grandma E's 80th birthday celebration.)
I chose this goal because
I want to volunteer my time to make a difference in the lives of homeless young people in San Francisco, and ATC is a fantastic organization. I need your help to stay accountable to my goal. For each $100 I raise, I will volunteer an hour of time to the prep nights at ATC. If you're in the area and you would rather donate time than money, please join me on the last Wednesday of the month from 5:30-7:30 at ATC's office in the mission. Sometimes we sort socks, sometimes we organize clothing donations, other times we bag up candy, vitamins or other supplies. This frees up the staff's time to spend more time helping and counseling the young people.
I'm helping because
San Francisco has so many homeless people, Laurel and I see them everyday in SF, so I feel I have to do something to help. In this economy funding has been even harder to come by for grassroots organizations. ATC relies on people like you and me for private support to run their program to help kids on the streets. Why ATC? That's easy, I met Rob Gitin at an ATC fundraiser in 2006. He sold me a raffle ticket and I thought he was such a cool guy. Then I found out later he founded ATC after graduating from Stanford and hasn't looked back. What a selfless soul! I started coming to some of the prep nights, then when I was put on bedrest Rob found a project for me to work on from home to raise in-kind donations. That saved my sanity and kept me busy so Laurel could finish growing, it was a win-win. In 2008 Seth, Laurel and I attended ATC's 10 year anniversary party and met Pamela (who organized the great event!), Darrin, Beaumont, Grandma Ellen, and Barry (aka Papa Bear!). How lucky that we were all there that night as they have all become our dear friends!
About At The Crossroads
ATC walks the streets of San Francisco, reaching out to homeless youth and young adults on their turf. We work with young people who others have given up on, who would not get help without us. Since we started 13 years ago, we have worked with more than 5,000 youth, helping them build outstanding lives.
