We Think Mary Can
Support Walk Around The Block while helping homeless youth
Goal
Attention, desk jockeys and couch potatoes everywhere! Let's go! My goal is to Walk Around The Block (at least!) every day. That's right: 4 blocks or 10 minutes--I can do this with your help and encouragement. I want to make this a healthier new year.
Join me! Start a campaign yourself to walk or to do something else for which you need encouragement. It's so easy to do, and it's the most fun kind of fundraising that exists!
I chose this goal because
As I walk the streets of the city, I think of the young people served by At The Crossroads. They are on the street for a lot of different reasons, but I always think about the fact that each one someone's child--and many of the clients are probably the age of my younger daughter. The outreach staff of ATC does a remarkable job of connecting and establishing trusting relationships with these young men and women. This in turn results in the staff being able to help clients to lives of stability, promise and satisfaction. This is a remarkable achievement, and ATC is a terrific organization, deserving of your support.
Last year, we had to cut staff time and salaries. It was a good idea because we are financially sound, but we have now have fewer resources to help, at a time when there are more clients to serve. Please help us get back to full strength!
I'm helping because
I got involved in ATC because of Rob Gitin, the executive director. Rob and his co-founder, Taj Mustapha, won an echoing green (www.echoinggreen.org) fellowship to start ATC after they graduated from Stanford. Not only has Rob (Taj went on to medical school) built a lean and effective agency, but he has also taken a role in helping the city to create good policy around serving homeless youth. We are building a wonderful board of directors--if you'd be interested in serving, please contact me by sending a message through ATC.
About At The Crossroads
ATC walks the streets of San Francisco, reaching out to homeless youth and young adults on their turf. We work with young people who others have given up on, who would not get help without us. Since we started 13 years ago, we have worked with more than 5,000 youth, helping them build outstanding lives.
