For every endeavor that Mary supports, over 200 people benefit directly or indirectly. Mary is the most efficient, compassionate "poker in the eye" in making as many people as possible aware of how many other people are suffering one way or another. How about "MARY GREGORY FOR PRESIDENT"???

Goal

Attention, desk jockeys and couch potatoes everywhere! Let's go! My goal is to Walk Around The Block (at least!) every day. That's right: 4 blocks or 10 minutes--I can do this with your help and encouragement. I want to make this a healthier new year.

Join me! Start a campaign yourself to walk or to do something else for which you need encouragement. It's so easy to do, and it's the most fun kind of fundraising that exists!

I chose this goal because

As I walk the streets of the city, I think of the young people served by At The Crossroads. They are on the street for a lot of different reasons, but I always think about the fact that each one someone's child--and many of the clients are probably the age of my younger daughter. The outreach staff of ATC does a remarkable job of connecting and establishing trusting relationships with these young men and women. This in turn results in the staff being able to help clients to lives of stability, promise and satisfaction. This is a remarkable achievement, and ATC is a terrific organization, deserving of your support.

Last year, we had to cut staff time and salaries. It was a good idea because we are financially sound, but we have now have fewer resources to help, at a time when there are more clients to serve. Please help us get back to full strength!

I'm helping because

I got involved in ATC because of Rob Gitin, the executive director. Rob and his co-founder, Taj Mustapha, won an echoing green (www.echoinggreen.org) fellowship to start ATC after they graduated from Stanford. Not only has Rob (Taj went on to medical school) built a lean and effective agency, but he has also taken a role in helping the city to create good policy around serving homeless youth. We are building a wonderful board of directors--if you'd be interested in serving, please contact me by sending a message through ATC.

About At The Crossroads

ATC walks the streets of San Francisco, reaching out to homeless youth and young adults on their turf. We work with young people who others have given up on, who would not get help without us. Since we started 10 years ago, we have worked with more than 5,000 youth, helping them build outstanding lives.

Updates

Here's my last update, folks. Thank you so much to everyone who has contributed. You have really kept me going: out of 81 days of my campaign, I only missed walking 4 blocks or more on 3 days! Keep me going--give a donation for encouragement, and help At The Crossroads meet the goals of helping more young people build extraordinary lives!

Way to go, Mary! I hope that long after the campaign is done, you continue to take the time to take a nice walk every day and enjoy the outdoors amidst your busy schedule. Once again, you have done an amazing service for the young people of ATC. Thank you!

OK, I confess: I missed two days this week. It was easy to walk through Melbourne, or hike through the bush from our cabin in the forest to the beach near Lorne, Victoria, Australia (see photo), but it's not so fun to walk once again through dark cold winter streets after work. So give me some encouragement, folks! I need your moral support, and At The Crossroads needs your financial support, and each of us will thank you SO MUCH!

I am proud to say that I have still not missed a day of walking, even though it has rained a lot, work is busy, I've had multiple At The Crossroads events and duties, and I've been to a conference. Hey, hey! Please keep me going by supporting my campaign...

Hey! It's going well! I haven't missed a day since I launched my campaign--even today, when the heavens opened. I found a time at the end of the day when the air was cold and crisp, but not liquid, and I took my walk! There are all kinds of benefits to this...
