We Think Rena Can
Support Become a Bat Mitzvah! while helping homeless youth
Goal
I want to get the Bat Mitzvah I never had!
I chose this goal because
According to Jewish Law, when children reach the age of majority (typically around 12 or 13), they become B'nai Mitzvah. This is a celebration, or rite of passage, that recognizes when the young adults become officially responsible for their actions.
Well I never had the opportunity to be Bat Mitzvah. So I am making it my goal to celebrate my Bat Mitzvah on April 3rd, just shortly before my 65th birthday!
In order to attain my goal I must spend hours studying, memorizing, and chanting Torah as well as performing acts of Tzedakah (justice, "community giving"). Which is where my Campaign comes in! My mitzvah (commandment "good deed") project is to help raise money for At The Crossroads. Please support me in becoming a Bat Mitzvah by donating to At The Crossroads.
I'm helping because
My son, Rob Gitin, is the co-founder and director of At The Crossroads (ATC)!!!
Respect and caring comes through in each little activity at ATC. It means that when volunteers put together sanitary kits that are given out on the streets, we are reminded to put each new little soap in a zip-lock bag so that when the box the soap comes in disintegrates, the recipient will still have a way to keep the soap dry.
At The Crossroads just believes in these young people in a way that helps the youth believe in themselves. Staff members listen and talk to the young people with kindness and consideration and respect and yes, love, and the young people respond with hope in themselves.
About At The Crossroads
ATC walks the streets of San Francisco, reaching out to homeless youth and young adults on their turf. We work with young people who others have given up on, who would not get help without us. Since we started 10 years ago, we have worked with more than 5,000 youth, helping them build outstanding lives.
