Atta boy, chief! I so admire the service you are providing for this population and impressed with the "neverkicked a ckien out of program" mantra. very nice. I'm working the same turf in yakima.

I am stoked on this goal, and I too am looking for some youtube highlights. I wish I could have donated more but getting paid by the gov sucks. And realize that in China someone would train to dunk just for the $25 haha. Every time you are about to give up on a set just think about blowing on Chase from the free throw line. Good luck buddy.

Tim, If you can put together such an amazing letter and web site, dunking a basketball should be a piece of cake. You have the energy and confidence to do it. And if you don't you gave it your best. Thanks for including me in your efforts. Feel free to contact me again about donating. You rock, Barb Carey

23 seems like a fitting number given your goals. I'd help you more, but I'll be unemployed in 3 months. You should post up some vids of you touching rim, and your progress!

Goal

I want to slam dunk a basketball into an official, ten-foot hoop.

I currently stand at 5 feet 11 inches, have bad knees, and rock a full-time job. As if I don't have enough working against me, I am fighting the stigma "White men can't jump". Upon completion, this is what I will be doing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NSA_Di2vliU&feature=related

I chose this goal because

I have a history of knee issues and I'm only 23. Yikes! Training for a slam dunk requires shedding upper body weight (good for knees), daily stretching (great for knees), and building quad muscles (amazing for knees!). Also, being able to dunk is cool, really cool. I will be posting updates on my progress in the weight room as well as other tid-bits along the way. Are you still not sure you want to support me? Allow me to incentivize your donation...

If you donate $1 - $49, I will recognize your philanthropy on my Facebook page (expected hits 3 million/day)

If you donate $50- $99, I will dedicate a work-out session to you, and call you afterwards to tell you how it went

If you donate more than $100, your name will appear in my final dunk video, posted on youtube

The more you donate, the higher I jump, plain and simple, lets make it happen for ATC and myself!

I'm helping because

I have had the pleasure of working for ATC over the past 5 months, and for those who don't already know, this is an extraordinary cause. This organization takes the right approach in dealing with clients, ATC doesn't look at homeless youth and say "you need to get a job" or "you need to get off of drugs". ATC works on empowering individuals to make their own decisions in life, and in so doing, create sustainable change. Here's a fact that perfectly embodies ATC's approach: in 12 years of existence, not one client has been kicked out of the program. How many other support organizations can say that?

About At The Crossroads

ATC walks the streets of San Francisco, reaching out to homeless youth and young adults on their turf. We work with young people who others have given up on, who would not get help without us. Since we started 10 years ago, we have worked with more than 5,000 youth, helping them build outstanding lives.

Here are my workout gains to date (the measurables if you will):

Squats: started @ 185 pounds, currently @ 225

Deadlift: started @ 185 pounds, currently @ 235

Cleans: started @ 95 pounds, currently @ 125

calf raises: started @ 35 pounds, currently @ 50

platform hops (pictured): started @ 24 inches, now @ 32

one-legged hops: started @ 12 inches, currently @ 18

These are the major lifts, I am also playing a lot of ball and running stairs regularly. One final note, this is the longest I have trained for anything, it's brutal, I'm starting to lose momentum. Help me out!

Update 3/17: The past two weeks have been brutal, putting myself on a no-fun, all-YMCA lifestyle diet. On the positive side, things have been progressing and I'm getting stronger and stronger. On the negative side, I hit a minor snag in training yesterday when I came down with neck spasms during a lift.

One of my supporters (Austin Brawner, China) thinks setting April 14th as my dunk goal is too soon. Is he right? Possibly. Will I disregard the comment? Absolutely. To the left is a pic of some friends who came to visit the other weekend, chillin at the "Full House" house. Enjoy!

Slam-Dunk Training update: Today marks the second straight week I woke up at 6:30 AM (a truly ungodly hour) to do a plyometrics workout. I am forced to do this particular workout early in the morning for 2 reasons:

1) Space

2) Frog Hops. Hopping up and down the basketball court like a frog is part of my training regimen. No joke, I get looks, weird looks, from all types of people. Sometimes I wonder what I look like... Am I that delusional dude down at the Y? Am I THAT GUY?

Lastly, I am solidly grabbing the rim right now, which means if I add 5 inches of vertical in the next month I will be able to slam!

My little cousins, Jake and Paige, from Greenville Wisconsin, have donated a WEEK'S WORTH of allowance to my Campaign for homeless youth! How cool is that?! That's money that could have gone to a new pack of Baseball cards, or a laffy taffy. But instead, my wonderful cousins are giving it to youth who really need it.

Thank you Jake and Paige! (that's Paige on the left)

workout 2/18 DEDICATED TO: David Vander Hoek

Still hating it from the night prior, I willed myself to the gym because of Hoek's donation. Lots of sweat, a few tears, but I felt great about it. Officially brought plyometrics into my workout routine, and upped my squat to 195. Lastly, I found out I put on 5 pounds in the last two weeks, is it fat? Is it muscle? I am leaning towards the latter.

Today I upped my maximum squat weight to 185 lbs. Upped my deadlift weight to 185 as well. Needless to say, my legs are getting juiced. But with only 2 donations in, I am beginning to lose my motivation, SO SHOW YOUR SUPPORT PEOPLE!

This dunk video is going to be sick, and I want all of you to be a part of it.
