We Think Vanessa Can
Support DIY screenprinting while helping homeless youth
Goal
My goal for this years "I Think I can Campaign" is to design, and screen print one creative image per week for 8 weeks. As a motivation to follow through with my goal, and for individuals looking to support my campaign, I will be sending my best completed print from the week's series to the 2 highest donors of that week (ie: the donors who contribute the most during week 2 will receive a print I have worked on during week 2). So don't all donate at once!
I chose this goal because
I chose this goal because I realized that I have a talent that not everyone possesses. I have extreme patience to sit and work on tedious projects for hours at time. I also realized, after going through a life changing move down to Mexico, that the only thing that eases my soul in moments of utter desperation and despair is maintaining an artistic outlet where I can use my hands to create beautiful things.
I recently moved back to the U.S.of A. and set up a screen printing studio in the back of my sister's apartment in Santa Barbara, CA. Although I could only dream of better weather and friendlier people, the transition back to California is still a complicated one. So here I am.. creating art not only for myself, but also for ATC and San Francisco homeless youth.
I'm helping because
I am helping ATC because I believe in this organization. Had it not been for my best friend of almost 20 years/ Outreach Counselor Brenda Covarrubias, I would have never known about the huge difference this small organization has made in such a large San Francisco community like the Mission District. My involvement is not only helping them fund raise, but is helping me get my art back on track. I <3 ATC!
About At The Crossroads
ATC walks the streets of San Francisco, reaching out to homeless youth and young adults on their turf. We work with young people who others have given up on, who would not get help without us. Since we started 10 years ago, we have worked with more than 5,000 youth, helping them build outstanding lives.
