We Think Jana Can
Support Jana's Sketch A Day while helping homeless youth
For the months of May and June I am going to do ONE sketch PER day.
I'm going to sketch every day to reconnect with the joy of just drawing to draw, creating to create.
If you donate, you most likely will be the recipient of one of my sketches.
This depends on how many people donate (if there are over 61 people I will run out of sketches) and how much you donate (larger amounts get first pick of the sketches).
All the money you donate will help At The Crossroads. If you don't know who they are or what they do I HIGHLY suggest you read up on them. They are helping the homeless in a way that I have always wanted to help but never really knew how.
I chose this goal because
I went to college in an attempt to hone my art. Instead I learned the skills I needed to achieve gainful employment in the arts and entertainment industry. While I love the job I have and certainly made a living from all the other jobs I've had I do not live off of my art. In a way this is a blessing, it means that art is not work for me. But I feel I have lost something along the way: creating something for the joy of creating it. This happens far too little in my life. I feel I usually need a reason to create, or I need to be productive about my art, it needs to meet a goal or be able to be viewed as income in some way. This is not how I want my art to be and I'm only just coming to realize this. For the months of May and June I will be making at least one sketch per day in an attempt to really rediscover this joy. I hope to make two sketches per day, but let us be realistic... there is still the 9-5 - or sometime the 9-8 - and that cat box won't clean itself, those yummy, carb-heavy treats won't mix, bake AND EAT themselves, etc. I'm prone to distraction but I know that everyday there is something worth sketching (a funny thought, an interesting person, cute dogs, my cat... or any animal, really) and THIS I can do.
I'm helping because
As I stated before, At The Crossroads is helping the homeless at the core. They do things that I'm ashamed I never thought to do nor had the courage to do. I've been in the Bay Area for just about a decade now and the homeless have always been a source of frustration, hopelessness and sadness for me. For once I feel like I can do something and not just feed them or clothe them or give them spare change but TALK to them as well. Well, ok maybe not ME exactly but I can help provide and support those with the proper training to keep doing what they are doing. I can do this, YOU can do this. You ARE doing this by sponsoring me. Not only do you get a sense of doing good, you get an awesome sketch at the end of summer! YAY!
About At The Crossroads
ATC walks the streets of San Francisco, reaching out to homeless youth and young adults on their turf. We work with young people who others have given up on, who would not get help without us. Since we started 18 years ago, we have worked with more than 7,000 youth, helping them build outstanding lives.
