We Think They Can
Support Read-a-thon's Campaign while helping homeless youth
Who is Read-a-thon
Whether you are a voracious reader, or just want to start reading more regularly, this is the perfect opportunity for you to turn that interest into a way to help homeless teens. Just pick your reading goals for 2012, sign up for your team member page, and then let your friends know about it! Throughout the year you can post updates on your progress to your page.
Let your friends and family know about this great cause, and your read-a-thon goals, and ask them to sponsor your efforts. Or better yet, to join the read-a-thon themselves!
Each team member has their own reading goals that they would like to achieve during 2012. Here are some of the possibilities:
Maybe you’d like to read a novel a month, or even every week, for the rest of the year.
Maybe you are already in a book challenge, and your goal is to complete that challenge this year.
Maybe you’re a book blogger with a huge ‘to be read’ pile you want to get through.
Maybe you want to read through the entire Bible.
Maybe you want to read your favorite author’s entire series.
Maybe you could try reading one new indie author a month.
You get the idea!
Just come up with a reading goal and join the group! Or pick one or more of our team members and cheer them on by donating on their page. By supporting our read-a-thon efforts we’ll have that extra motivation and accountability to reach those goals while supporting an awesome cause.
I'm helping because
At The Crossroads has a wonderful history of helping homeless teens get off the streets. When you look at the young people in your life, can you imagine what would happen to them if suddenly there was not a safe home and loving family to care for them? Most teens are either too young or don’t have the skills to find work. Without money or resources, what will they do? Where will they sleep? Where will they find food? What about clothes and hygiene products? Who will they come across on the streets? Someone who will introduce them to drugs or prostitution as their only option to stave off starvation? Or will they encounter one of ATC's councilors who will give them something to eat, clean clothing, a safe place to stay, and the guidance to completely turn their life around? ATC is the glimmer of hope for these kids who have nothing, no one, and no future. ATC is an amazing group of people who goes out onto the streets, finds these kids where they are, and brings them out of the darkness. And that young person in your life that you thought about at the beginning of this paragraph, wouldn’t you want that for them?
About At The Crossroads
ATC walks the streets of San Francisco, reaching out to homeless youth and young adults on their turf. We work with young people who others have given up on, who would not get help without us. Since we started 18 years ago, we have worked with more than 7,000 youth, helping them build outstanding lives.
