Jenn joined co-founders Rob and Taj in 2000, and she was one of the first employees hired by At The Crossroads. She joined the team along with Dan, both who were hired as Outreach Counselors. In the early years, Outreach Counselors were assigned to a specific neighborhood for outreach and Jenn’s was the Mission because she’s half Cuban and fluent in Spanish. This meant that she and Rob would spend four nights a week doing outreach in the Mission, talking to clients and building trust with people on the streets.
“It was funny because my now husband, boyfriend at the time, as I mentioned, he worked nine to five, so I would only see him on Wednesday nights and on the weekend. And I spent four nights a week talking to Rob, so Rob knew me way better than my boyfriend did.” -Jenn, Former Outreach Counselor
Jenn also became one of the first people to work on ATC’s fundraising. She put together our first website and wrote a lot of grant applications when she wasn’t meeting with clients. Today, Jenn is the Director of Development at the California Bicycle Coalition.
Listen as Jenn describes what outreach was like 18 years ago and why Rob knew her better than most people in her life at the time.
